My ABS light came on. What might be wrong with my car?
My car is a 2004 Saturn Vue AWD V6 with 93000 miles.
The (ABS) light came on this weekend, and I dont know what is wrong.
I just had the brakes replaced in Feb. and the brakes seem to work fine right now. The light did go on and off a few times, but now it is on all the time.
You’re probably not in imminent danger of smashing yourself into itty-bitty pieces in the freeway, as generally ABS is not exactly the same thing as your brakes. Since ABS is the mechanism that takes the guess work out of braking in intense driving situations (i.e. pumping brakes for you instead of you having to force yourself to do it when you’re frantically trying to STOP before you hit that tree coming at you at 50 mph) – braking needs to be undertaken more thoughtfully until you get the issue resolved.
I’ve had ABS wiring ripped by a tire blow out, a sensor fail, and a fuse go – you probably want to get it checked out. From my experience and ken, it shouldn’t be very expensive to fix, and might be optional if you need to save up the cash. But like I said, ABS helps a lot when you need it most – so I’d have it looked at. Try taking it to a place that will give you a free estimate, so you’re not out however much if you decide to wait or forgo the fix.
